How to Find a Gift: Top Tips

Surprising a special someone with a gift, be it for no reason in particular or a special occasion, is one way to put an instant smile on the face of a family member, friend or colleague. When it comes to choosing the perfect gift, this is where it can get tricky! This is especially the case if you’re unsure of the person’s taste or style. Thankfully, there is a number of tips to consider when browsing for presents, all of which will help you in your search…

Choose something generic

If you’re unsure of the individual’s tastes, choosing a generic gift is a failsafe option. The likes of a bouquet of sophisticated blooms in muted hues is always a good gift choice and one that is suited to both men and women. The simple tones and style will match any decor and taste, providing a welcome addition to the home.

Pick something that matches the recipient’s personality

Try to find a little out more about the recipient before purchasing a gift. This could be their favourite colour, their favourite flower, food or drink. You can then tailor the gift to their personality. If you know them well, it’s likely you already know exactly what they need or want. For example, if their decor is very minimalist, the process of how to find a gift should be simpler as you can one that matches the style – especially when buying artwork or flowers.

Similarly, if gifting the recipient a plant, choose something you know will thrive in the environment they live in. On top of this, if they have a busy work and social life, or travel a lot, choose a shrub that requires little maintenance as it should mean they can enjoy the beautiful blooms for longer.

Choose the supplier wisely

Always choose a trusted supplier when buying gifts, as you want to know you’re buying quality. If the gift breaks or withers after first use or shortly after being displayed, the recipient isn’t going to get much enjoyment out of it.

Consider location and delivery options

If sending to a friend or family member who lives in a different city or country to you, you’ll need to pick a supplier that is able to deliver to this particular location. Similarly, if you want an item to arrive at a certain time or extremely quickly, you’ll need to choose a gift company that offers international delivery and same or next day delivery.

Do your research

If you know what it is you wish to buy as a gift, shop around and do your research. Certain stockists may have it in different colours or at a lower price. Certain companies may also be out of stock or have a waiting list, although this is of course massively dependent on what you buy.

Read reviews

Reading reviews is a great idea, especially if you haven’t purchased the product you intend to buy before. You’ll likely find customer reviews on the products page or alternatively via a search online. As well as reviews on the product, you may also wish to look at generic reviews of the company – i.e. did the product ordered arrive on time, was it as described and was it a good value for money?

Do an online search

If you’re unsure of how to find a gift or you’re struggling for inspiration, simply type into your search engine the words ‘how to find a gift’ or alternatively, the name of the gift you wish to buy. You’ll be met with an array of listings stocking products you wish to purchase, including some related ideas and recommendations.

Ask friends and family for advice

If you’re struggling to find the perfect gift and it’s a special occasion, ask the recipient’s friends and family for advice. They may have heard the individual say they really like something or that they need a certain product. Alternatively, get them to drop subtle hints or ask questions, it will still be a surprise as the gift will be coming from yours truly.

Look at gift guides

When it comes to tips for finding a gift, both magazines and online websites feature an array of gift guides. These are generally aimed at different sexes and different tastes. For example, the sporty individual, the sophisticated girlfriend, the daredevil or the gadget lover.

Remember it’s the thought that counts

Even if you’re unsure of what to get a loved one, you must remember it’s the thought that counts. If the present you have chosen for them isn’t quite their style, they’ll still appreciate the fact you went out of your way to buy it for them. We hope this makes the process of finding a gift easier, after all, there are many ways of discovering the ideal present!
